Imaging and Characterization tools are the cornerstone to nanoscale research including microscopy (TEM, SEM, AFM and Aberration Corrected Electron Microscopy), spectroscopy / spectrometry (NMR, FTIR, Acoustic), and advanced nano mechanical (nano scale manipulations) tools. These tools are highly sensitive and require that the installation environment be free of electromagnetic fields, vibration, and acoustical noise. Design of the specialized environment to meet the needs of the user, related to Aesthetics, Functionality and the tradeoffs that impact the project budget will be discussed.
Case Studies will be presented that outline mitigation and aesthetic trends used when designing either a new or renovated space to accommodate these specialized tools. These same case studies will be used to show how the design impacts cost to achieve similar results.
AGI will outline from the case studies, the highlights and challenges related to each project and their outcomes. This will include items such as distance mitigation, operational procedures and materials selection, all which have a significant impact on how the space is designed and the project budget. Additionally, AGI will show how critical considerations defined during space planning to mitigate disturbances impact the space efficiency of the labs and support areas. Design and Construction benchmarks will be shown.
