Technologies of today such as smart consumer electronics, electric vehicles and smart grids all depend on the development of high energy density batteries along with efficient and reliable recharging source. Photovoltaic (PV) can become an efficient battery recharging source. Conventional method consists of PV and battery as two separate units connected via long electric wires. These systems tend to be bulky, inflexible, less efficient and expensive. Intrinsic integration of PV with batteries provides a compact yet efficient energy solution in comparison to the traditional discrete systems. Most of the reports on PV integration with energy storage are focused on capacitive storage. Here, we demonstrate an efficient design of integration of PV and battery using a single junction perovskite solar cell monolithically integrated with a Li4Ti5O12-LiCoO2 lithium ion battery enabled by DC-DC converter with maximum power tracking.
