It is shown that many transition metal carbides (TMCs), such as Mo2C, WC, TaC and NbC, exhibit superconductivity which strongly depends on the crystal thickness. Here we show the CVD synthesis of thin Mo2C crystals on Cu foil by annealing Mo-Cu substrates in CVD system under methane flow. Grown crystals are characterized using Optical Microscope, Raman Spectroscopy, AFM, SEM with EDS and XRD. The effects of processing parameters on the thickness and morphology of the Mo2C crystals are discussed in order to explain the mechanism. This techniques may open the door to synthesis of other 2D TMC crystals.
